In this study, we review the key issues with parallel I/O subsystems. Through modeling, analysis and simulations, we evaluate the behavior and characteristics of the parallel I/O subsystem, we show that the performance of the overall system is highly sensitive to the I/O subsystem architecture, I/O access patterns as well as I/O workloads.
